When purchasing the app for 20 bucks, I was expecting it to have the same features as the normal procreate we have come to love with the addition of more features. That was not the case and sadly I have been disappointed. This app is very limiting and makes it hard to animate properly. I ended up just doing my rough animated drafts on this app and doing my actual polished work on the regular procreate. I find it unhelpful that I would have to jump through hoops to get the results I want because the app has been very limiting. Not worth the 20 bucks at all. If you are considering getting started on animation, this app is not the way to go. This app has a lot of work to be done, and I do believe that there is a lot of potential here, but that has not been realized yet.

Adding image sequences just makes one long track and just makes use of the first image selected what was the point of allowing multiple image selections if they just disappear. Make it import multiple images as frames. Can’t extend one frame in the track without moving every frame, I assumed extending one frame would move the rest but manually moving every frame is frustrating. Can’t lock tracks in case I accidentally touch it. This app feels more like a video editor rather than hand drawn animation workflow.
  • I prefer animation on regular procreate.

Let me just start off by saying, it’s a good idea, but something went wrong in the process. I feel like $20 is way too much. The brushes are annoying, the undo button is nonexistent as far as I can tell, and not to mention trying to import GIFs onto it (it’s how I export animations on regular Procreate) doesn’t work. It really could be better, but it also could be worse.

Love this app I have been animating in for a month and I'm so ready for new updates but I want to know when they are coming.
  • Unusable for traditional animation in current state

It’s missing basic animation tools that are necessary for any animation software. I still can’t wrap my head around there not being a reference layer button. It makes coloring with the fill tool impossible without destroying your original line art. Also there is no merge layers option so if you draw on two separate layers it’s impossible to use the fill tool altogether. It’s also missing the lasso tool and feels clunky. The app is clearly unfinished and buggy. I have to restart the app every 30 min because it will freeze randomly. Overall it could be a great app if it was finished but currently it is almost unusable as a traditional animation software. Edit: Crashes have been fixed since I wrote my review, so I increased to 2 stars. However, we are still waiting on an update after almost 3 months of nothing. When replies to reviews said we would get selections in an early update I didn’t expect I would be waiting at least 6 months for that. I understand app development is difficult but it seems like these problems wouldn’t have been so major if the devs made better decisions during development. We don’t need 1 million pixel canvas, we need better drawing tools.
  • Unfinished app

Sell this app when you really fully finished it please I don't think it's a good idea to be able to change the length and width of the timeline as you work, especially animation

Without the ability to lasso select, easily transform, and merge layers, Dreams is nothing but a curiosity. The team has mentioned some of these improvements are in the works but it's been 5 months. I hope they figure it out sooner rather than later.

As an experienced animator who has used many animation softwares; I just can’t put into words how extremely uncomfortable it is to use this app. The timeline is the most irrationally painful worst design that I have ever seen in my life. Also there are so many features missing. You can’t even move drawings unless you create a keyframe?? There’s no alpha lock in layers, no digital camera & parallax effect, no way of editing your drawings or being able to move your lines for more precision. There’s not even any tool for creating basic shapes like circles?? When you’re drawing you can’t even hide that huge flipbook thing that is covering a big area of your screen. The timeline could have been as simple as the one you find in Adobe Animate.. it’s SIMPLE and EFFICIENT. Working with your timeline is the most time consuming and unnecessary complicated thing, it doesn’t make any sense. Finally your app is buggy, slow and it freezes. If you redesign and fix this app so that it’s usable for animation in an intuitive way I would give you 5 starts.
  • Sooooo much potential

This has the potential to be the greatest media creation app on ios. It already is super fun and has more animation options than most other apps. The improvements over the first release has made it more intuative and useful. My suggestion (for what its worth) is to really focus on ease of use and UI, things need to be a bit more intuative, some of the interactions are frustrating because its not clear how to get something done or what you should expect a tap or touch to do. I would LOVE to see some type of vector animation options, i think that would put this app over the top. I cant wait to see what this team does next!
