  • They Killed It

The app used to be my favorite place on the iphone. I invested heaps of time in creating smart and fun community courses in Latin, chiefly because I needed to improve, but also because it filled a need among other users. To me those were golden years, and my proficiency grew by leaps and bounda. Then I learned, yeaterday, that the app no longer gives access to your own courses. Instead you'll have to log in to a website from a browser. What was the reason to suddenly deprive users of their convenience as they spend hours and hours every day trying to learn new languages. Memrise must want them to not learn, and not be creative about making new courses, What an incredibly hostile move. It didn't ever occur to them to create a new app that could do what the regular app used to do. I can onlyl imagine that Memrise is under new management, and run by people who have no interest in language learning, but only seek to monetize what's already there. It's over. They killed it. In response to developers' message: I am talking about the APP. This is a forum about apps. The Memrise app is useless now. If it had to be changed, then why not make another app for community courses? Make customers pay for a second app for the old courses, if financial concerns are a concern. I've used the free app for years, I can't begin to put a price on that. I'd happily pay if the amount is not extortionate. I have spent tons of time creating image based courses in Latin. I also used it for teaching. It was wonderful, and made the world a better place. But you had to pull the plug on it. In a search online I saw that the long-term survival of the community courses cannot even be guaranteed. But see no help offered to salvage my courses. I am dismayed.
  • Courses moved - no longer available on app

I no longer have a reason to use Memrise. I moved to Armenia and can now no longer access the Armenian courses on the app due to the move. Now I need to go to a website that leads to a “bad gateway” to access the courses that have moved. In layman’s terms… I don’t have access to anything let alone the courses I used to study. A very genius idea on Memrise’s part 🙄 what a foolish decision. Update in response to developer input: what I’m saying is, there’s no point in having the app if the only courses I find valuable at this time are those the community is making, which are those you removed from the app. This aside, the interface for community courses aren’t mobile-friendly and it’s cumbersome having to access it all on desktop.

I do not want community courses in a web app I want them IN the core app. they removed one of the biggest differentiators and features that made the app so incredible. Community features are now outside the app and on the webpage making the experience nearly unusable, frustrating. Hard to recommend now.
  • No More Community Courses in App

No More Community Courses in App; I’m aware the Community Courses have been move…The Community Course website/webapp is not visually user friendly on phone due to limited screen space when utilizing keyboard. The Memrise App made the experience more enjoyable, but now it’s more of a pain to complete flash cards on a website & I’m not as motivated to use Memrise as a support in my studies anymore. Currently looking for different options since it’s still unclear how long Memrise will continue supporting Community Courses.
  • Your courses have moved

Stuck on this page that says “Your courses have moved.” There’s no way to bypass this on my iPhone 12 mini. Not sure why they would render the app completely unusable. Bad software engineering.
  • Poor Experience

Updated Review: I initially bought the app and then saw they were doing an update that was half done and no languages were supported other than Italian. This was not what I was told I was purchasing, so I immediately initiated a refund request via the web form on their site. A month passed with no acknowledgement of my request. I later contacted again and a refund was granted this time with no argument, though the agent initially tried to pass me off to Apple when I had purchased through their web site. So I give a star back for honoring my refund request in the end at least. However, overall the experience was poor, paying for a half-baked product up front and then the lack of response for the initial request for help. I hope they improve in this department. I did take another look at the app before deleting and saw they now have moved over some other languages, though it does not support the number of languages they used to before getting rid of Community.
  • It used to be great

I have been using this app for a couple years as part of my language learning. It used to be a great and efficient way to build vocabulary and practice pronunciation. Sadly, they revised the entire thing and now it’s a shell of its former self. The language levels that made it so useful were removed and there is no way to get them back. The AI piece they added is also very disappointing. So sad to see such a useful app totally gutted. I paid for the lifetime subscription and am having a hard time understanding how Memrise can add value to me now.
