  • Excessive Myopia—Removing Community Courses

I’ve been using the app for years because of seamless community course integration with my university and private study materials. It was the BEST solution on the market for this—not even close. Now you remove this functionality because of myopic short-run profit motivation around direct control of content rather than allowing for a crafted UX and pedagogical proliferation. I hope whatever fresh biz dev consultant who made this decision either gets fired, has their MBA revoked, or the app suffers up to the point at which you realize how atrocious this decision is. Very sad to have to find a new app after learning so much on this one. Guess a good thing cannot last forever.
  • The community courses is why I used this app

Without the community courses, and with the terrible new upgrade, this app isn’t worth it any more. I’m sad to break my almost 500 day streak I had going in 7 different Korean courses. To hear we won’t even be able to access them is gutting.
  • Once great but no more

I have been using this app for many many years, more than I can remember. It was an amazing tool for learning and memorizing facts and vocabulary. The recent change to in house content only has destroyed the app for me. 90% of the content I use is community created and now that has all been removed to force in house content on me. The in house content does not cover my needs. So disappointing.
  • Removed the best feature

No more community flash cards so custom sets are a thing of the past. Other apps do it better in every way now.
  • Deleting the app

Community courses are the only thing that makes memories worthwhile. Deleting the app now that I can no longer access them here.
  • I miss the old version

This app has changed so much since I used it a few years ago. It used to have so many more options and features and I learned so much from it. I miss the community created courses and the old interface. Now you have to pay a (huge) subscription fee to get more features- and they’re not even the features that made this app the best. there’s really not much you can do with this app anymore if you can’t afford it, and even if you can, you’re getting a degraded version of what this app used to be. I’m seeing tons of other reviews saying these same things- developers, please listen to your users.
  • Meh for Chat GTP

This version of Memrise makes me want to go back to the original. It keeps pushing me to chat with Chat GTP especially when I don’t have time. That is fantastic chat GTP is around to speak with but it is keeping me away from learning words and phrases that I need. Plus, it seems really lazy to include Chat GTP and call that a feature. I’m not really interested in yet another opportunity to speak with Chat GTP. Maybe there is a way to connect us with other individuals that are learning Spanish instead? I would find that incredibly more useful
  • Removed community content from app

I’ve used this app for nearly 10 years. Someone who knows and uses multiple languages daily for my career, this app was invaluable for maintaining and expanding the specific knowledge I needed. I could tailor lists to my specific needs and build them to reinforce topics I was weak in. I could just open the app and study a little each day. But now that you removed my vocabulary lists from the app, there’s no reason to keep it.
  • The new interface is painful and demotivating

Please bring back the old interface or something like it. It’s no longer clear where one is in the progression of lessons for a given level. I really liked the old interface where each level was broken into a set of lessons, which contained some number of vocabulary words or phrases. Many language apps have copied the DuoLingo interface for a reason—it’s very motivating to see that one is moving along a lesson track. Where are the levels?
