  • Chegg has changed drastically, for the worse

    As a STEM student Chegg used to be my go-to for getting solutions in challenging courses like physics and organic chemistry, because the responses were from real-life experts that provided the correct answer ≈98% of the time. But now that they incorporated AI, you’re lucky to ever get a correct response. Even though AI could be great for broader topics and questions with answers that could involve multiple interpretations, I don’t think the developers realize that it just can’t do science or more complex material at all. That’s the reason most students even use the app, otherwise the question could be typed into chat bots like GPT (with no wait time either). For the price it’s kind of ridiculous that the app has chosen to take this route. They’ve also mentioned in responses to others that you could just downvote the AI-powered response and have the question forwarded to a real person, but there are so many issues with that. First of all there’s no option to initially post the question and have it be blocked from AI answering it. It also adds unnecessary time in waiting for a response because at this point almost every question I post that’s been answered by AI has been wrong, so forwarding it to a real person is inevitable. The majority of students also use Chegg to search up questions that many have already asked, and the AI responses have fully clogged the app to the point where there are so many answers to that one question, most of them answered by AI (who will likely give the exact same answer every time), and most of them incorrect. Usually these responses would have no upvotes or downvotes either, because like I said there’s so many of them, so it’s impossible to tell if it’s the correct answer. If any developers come across this review, please take the criticism and work on restoring the app’s effectiveness and reliability.

  • Pointless without flashcard function

    This used to be a great app with flashcards but then they stripped it down and removed everything except for this paid homework help function. When will the flashcards be back??

    I cancelled my subscription because the only responses to my questions would be from AI generator and would give me the wrong answer 95% of the time.

    This app used to be super helpful to me when solving math problems. Now with AI, it’s not as easy to see the expert verified questions that have been answered by an actual person. Also, the AI solves questions in weird ways and uses different techniques then what I’m being taught in class. This is very frustrating for me because instead of helping me get a deeper understanding of the questions, I end up even more confused about the questions. Another issue I have with this app is that it now only allows me to have up to 1 mobile device!!!!! I don’t understand why they made this ridiculous change, it just makes me dislike this app even more. I miss the old chegg before AI update. I will no longer be a subscriber as a result of the changes being forced upon us.

  • Incorrect ‘expert-verified’ solutions

    It’s frustrating how you get two consecutive incorrect ‘expert-verified’ solutions. Should be used with caution, in my opinion. I feel it’s a real waste of money.

    The AI update is horrible, not only do they give the wrong answers, it doesn’t allow for us to search real verified answers from real people. I use to be able to save questions and find homework help but now its basically chat gpt which I can use for free.

    Already kind of weird that I’m limited to 20 questions a month when I’m forking over 15+ dollars a month but now the AI that can’t answer math questions and the search engine that only gives me answers to unrelated solutions has started to make me thing the devs of this app are intentionally trying to get people to run out of there questions and pay more. Stop cutting corners and use real people to solve answers an unlimited number of times because people are paying you to do so.

    This app used to be good. But they are so strict on the device limit that I can’t even use it on my app! Or if I use the app i can’t use the website from my same phone. It’s so stupid. Also, the new format is so ugly- they basically copied chat GPT and I can’t even tell if it is AI or not. Either way, the answers have been very unreliable lately and now on the app you cannot even see the number of upvotes/downvotes or comments anymore so now I really have no idea if the responses they give is accurate. On top of this, many times the question is not even answered in the response. They will give more information about the problem and might solve for a different part of the question than what was asked. At this point Chegg is not even close to worth the money unless they went back to how they used to. Chegg fails to compete with the other similar sites nowadays.

    Chegg itself is okay, but this app is ridiculous. I understand there is a device limit on your account, but even when I don’t sign into my account with another device, it still kicks me out of my phone app. And then I go to sign in and it says error and i try over and over and it doesn’t log me in due to this said error with google sign in. The website is slow enough and now I can’t even access the account I PAY FOR on the app. I just downloaded an update but I know it’s not gonna fix the problem because my problem has been ongoing for months.

    I really loved this app last semester, it helped me so much with accounting. However, now I am realizing they are testing a new AI feature and trying to push it instead of expert answers. The AI answers are way too lengthy and time consuming with random garbage and if I wanted AI to help I would go onto ChatGPT. I use Chegg for real help and step by step instructions, not for AI generated essays.
