If Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted, Upward is the dating app designed to keep you on-app and spending money indefinitely. Sad, because otherwise there are some nice women on the app, and Christians are an underserved market vis-a-vis dating sites/apps. I spent about a year of my time and about $100 of my money experimenting with Upward — wanting to like it. Consider: Upward won’t show you the top, most popular people to swipe right on your profile until you pay at least $17.99 for a weekly subscription. (They’ll show you some right-swipers without a subscription, for sure, but I’ve never seen — let’s call them — my five-star right-swipers until I pay. [I know because Upward shows you a preview of your top-level right-swipers, but you’ll never see their profiles organically in your queue]). Add to this: Because they won’t reveal your prime right-swipers in the first few days, these admirers often get disillusioned with the app and delete their accounts…before you can buy a subscription and view them. Also, Upward doesn’t delete right-swipes — that show up in your “heart count” at the bottom of the app — when you swipe left on one of your (less popular) right-swipers in the profile queue. So you may have 100 “hearts,” but some/many you’ve already swiped left on. To make matters worse, Upward forces you to consider matches that are outside (in my case, older) than my established age range preference for matches. I personally don’t wish to date someone older than me, but I regularly get right-swipe/heart/like notifications from women several years older than me. So many of the right-swipes in my heart count aren’t relevant; Upward is just using inflated heart counts to bait me into purchasing a subscription. All considered, Upward is designed NOT to match you in the short-term…but instead to maximize revenue as quickly as possible. Basically, it’s the antithesis of Hinge. And, ironically, the app designed to be deleted (Hinge) is still on my phone. Upward, the app designed NOT to be deleted, is deleted. Buyer beware.

It’s okay but I swear it will only show people 100 of miles away unless you pay more money which is kinda lame

I'm still trying to understand how a company who steals money from their customers and refuses to give them the service they paid for can call themselves a Christian service!! Not only to steal from those who are trusting you to treat your customers like the Christian that you claim to be. If anyone is thinking of using this service and actually giving them your hard earned money, please think again and use any other dating service. At least you will probably be able to communicate with your likes at another app. *Please change your name and your claim of being Christian, you ate not a Christian business when you steal money and lie to your customers!!

Just a request for us to view the profiles of people in the chats. That would be great.

I like the idea but I do not like paying $40 to just talk to someone when there is a group chat for everyone to just talk in. Oh and I do like the group chat idea, that is pretty cool, I did encounter one scammer but that’s about it. Overall it’s a good app. But still had no luck finding anyone

Please, please, please, move the super like button to a different place. Maybe to the top corner? I keep accidentally super liking people when I intend on hitting the “x” button.
  • Waste of time

1st day you sign up it shows you ppl in the distance preference you set for a few swipes after that you’re lucky to find someone 50miles aways. All they show you are ppl 75miles away up to 400miles away nothing closer. Doesn't make sense, app is a waste of time.
  • Can only see matches

It’s a good app and it has lots of detail. But you can’t see who likes you and can only see matches unless you purchase a subscription. Which removes part of the base functionality of the app. If the app really wants to have more users they will make it free to see who likes you.

Unable to search for people. Unable to re-look at people after passing them by.
